This is something I've noticed for a while. Nature photos in my gallery always seem to get more attention than any other subject matter. This isn't only on dA either, it's consistent with every platform where I post my photography. Even though it's far from my main endeavor (I don't even shoot or post it that often), my nature photos always get the most likes, favorites, and general engagement. Furthermore, this isn't just an issue with my personal gallery. It seems like every photo that makes it to the front page on dA has nature as the subject matter. Even the photography groups I run receive the most submissions to the nature folders, by far. But... why? I understand it's nice to look at, but there's only so much artistic liberty to be had in that genre. There's probably not a single nature photo one can take that hasn't been taken before (no shade if that's your preferred subject, shoot whatever makes you happy). Maybe I'm jaded, but it's discouraging to see my generic nature photos get so much more attention than other genres that I enjoy working on more and put greater effort into. (This rant may or may not have been sparked by seeing my extremely generic photo of a flower get over 20 favorites in a couple hours while other ones posted on the same day got 7 at most.)

Here's some of my recent non-nature photography. Post some of yours in the comments, I'd love to give some attention to lesser-viewed genres.

So I hadn't updated my print shop here on dA in like a year and a lot of the prints I had were just set to the defaults so the proportions were weird on some of them. I had too much time on my hands today so I thought I'd go through everything and update it. By popular demand, I've added a lot more prints of my photography (mostly nature, urban, abstract, and still lifes). Check it out and maybe put my art up in your house if you want to.

As you may already know (since I sometimes don't upload any art for months at a time), I've been having trouble with finding the motivation to edit photos. It's so daunting when I click on the edits folder on my laptop and see dozens of projects I should have finished already, some even from 2+ years ago. Since actually starting to take care of my mental health, this has gotten a bit easier and I'm slowly working my way through the backlog of photos I still need to edit. I know the idea of Pictober/Inktober etc. is to create something new every day of the month, and I did consider doing that, but I think my art turns out better when I feel like making it instead of doing it because I have to for an arbitrary goal. So instead I'm going to try to edit at least 31 of the photos I've been putting off indefinitely. It's going well so far, I'm already at 22 and it's only the 10th, so expect more to come. It's nice to finally be productive.

Here's a couple recent ones that fit the autumn spirit:

I realized I hadn't gone through my old photos in a while, and upon doing so I noticed that I still shoot some of the same subjects as before but with a vast improvement in my skills. I wanted to share a couple sets that demonstrate that improvement, both because I'm proud of my progress and to show younger amateur/hobbyist photographers that even if your work isn't where you want it to be now, you can achieve it with time and effort.

Now let's cringe at some of my very old work, shall we?
